Vidéo Circus (1984) Commission of the Belgian RTBF-television

Video, 16 mins.

Vidéo Circus composed with video artist, Michel Jaffrennou is an adaptation of the earlier Électronique Vidéo Circus multi-video, multichannel full-scale performance work. Commissioned for a video art programme on the Wallonian (Belgian French) RTNF television station, materials from the earlier work and some new ones were recomposed in image and in sound to create a single video work that has been presented in over 100 countries. It is also about 1/4 of the duration of the original work.

The same elements, many related to circus, come into play utilising the image and sound techniques available at the time. As the performance piece, this one is composed of several, mostly short scenes taking the viewer on a journey in which ca. 90% of the music is existent music of all sorts remixed plus some analog synthesizer sounds as part of the work’s sound design and atmosphere.
