Une manière de faire le-que faire (1974)

Stereo recording, 18′

This piece was made at the request of visual artist, Michel Jaffrennou in 1974 after his request for the two 1973 works for a gallery exhibition. He the interest was deconstruction, a focus in postmodernism of the epoch. In a conversation he included the expression, ‘une manière de faire le-que faire’ which more or less means a way of doing that which needs to be done.

A score was created using very basic analog techniques of the time which was more or less all that I could use at that point. As you can see on the score, for each line one consonant is dropped (or added) and the amount of sound manipulation increases, aka deconstruction. What was fun to discover, or perhaps I did it on purpose, was that French turned into Texan American without the vowels when I recorded it (also deconstruction).

The recording and score follow below.
