Electronique Vidéo Circus (1983) commissioned by Centre Pompidou

Video-theatre – a commission of the Centre Pompidou involving 3 actors, 28 video monitors in a big top-like structure plus six channels of sound – based on a scenario and using the video images of Michel Jaffrennou, 1 hour

Électronique Vidéo Circus was a highly ambitious project conceived by video artist, Michel Jaffrennou  and was commissioned by the Centre Pompidou where it was performed for a week before embarking on an international tour. It involved 3 actors, 28 video monitors in a big top-like structure and six channels of sound (all composed by Landy).

The sounds were spatialised across four channels in the large performance space in Paris. It was  composed of several, mostly short scenes taking the viewer on a journey in which ca. 90% of the music is existent music of all sorts remixed plus some analog synthesizer sounds as part of the work’s sound design and atmosphere. The actors interact with each other and the content of the screens and the sound which often served as cues for their actions. There are clear references to the world of circus much much more including modern art, new technology and everyday life.
